Meet DeeDee

Life has a way of taking us places we never expected to be. Sometimes it’s a child who’s struggling. Sometimes it’s a marriage that’s grown distant. Sometimes it’s the weight of past hurts, family conflict, or a season of life that feels overwhelming. Whatever brings you here, you’ve already taken one of the hardest steps—reaching out for help. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

I’m Deandrea “DeeDee” Miller, LMSW, and for more than 20 years I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside children, teenagers, adults, couples, parents, and families through some of life’s most difficult seasons. Throughout those years, one thing has become very clear to me: behavior rarely tells the whole story.

Whether it’s a child acting out, a teenager shutting down, a marriage filled with conflict, or an adult carrying the weight of trauma, there is almost always a deeper story waiting to be understood.

Early in my career, I had the privilege of working with children and families involved in Tennessee’s child welfare system. Day after day, I witnessed the heartbreaking effects of trauma, broken relationships, and generational patterns. I also noticed something else. Too often, the focus was on changing behaviors without first understanding what was driving them. That observation challenged me to ask a different question: What actually creates lasting change? I’ve spent much of my career searching for that answer.

My approach combines evidence-informed counseling with practical tools that people can begin using immediately. I draw from attachment theory, child development, trauma-informed care, and neuroscience while remaining grounded in Biblical principles.

My Christian faith shapes the way I see every person who walks through my door. I believe every person is created by God, deeply loved by Him, and created with purpose. Life, trauma, and painful experiences can distort the way we see ourselves, but they never change the way God sees us. I believe there is hope because our worth isn’t determined by what has happened to us—it is rooted in the One who created us. One of the greatest privileges of my work is watching people begin to see themselves differently—to recognize their worth, rediscover hope, and move toward the purpose for which they were created.

You won’t hear a lot of clinical jargon in my office because I believe counseling should make sense. My goal is to take what we know about healthy relationships, child development, and healing and explain it in a way that is practical, understandable, and useful in everyday life.

Behavior is communication.

One of the things I enjoy most is helping people see themselves, their relationships, and their circumstances from a different perspective. Sometimes one new insight changes everything.

It’s one of the principles that guides my work. While children often communicate through their actions because they don’t yet have the words to express what they’re feeling, adults do it too. Sometimes what we do—or don’t do—speaks more clearly than the words we say. When we slow down long enough to understand what behavior is communicating, we can respond with greater wisdom, compassion, and intention instead of simply reacting in frustration.

I believe the most effective parents aren’t perfect parents—they’re intentional parents. My goal isn’t to hand parents a list of rules to follow. I want to teach principles that will help them make wise decisions long after counseling has ended. When parents understand the “why” behind a child’s behavior, they gain confidence, relationships become stronger, and lasting change becomes possible.

I don’t believe counseling is about someone “fixing” you or your family. Real, lasting change happens when people gain understanding, practice new ways of responding, and choose to do the work. My role is to walk alongside you, ask thoughtful questions, provide practical tools, and help you see possibilities you may not have seen before.

One of the greatest compliments I receive is when someone says, “I’ve never thought about it that way before,” or, “You made that make sense.” Those moments matter to me because understanding changes the way we respond. When we respond differently, relationships begin to change.

When relationships change, generations can change.

It’s a privilege to be invited into someone’s story. Whether we’re working together for a few sessions or much longer, I hope every person who walks through my door leaves knowing they were heard, respected, challenged to grow, and genuinely cared for.

If you’re ready to take the next step, I would be honored to walk alongside you.
